Film Information
Roger Greenberg (Ben Stiller), a failed musician now making a living as a carpenter in New York, returns to Los Angeles to house-sit for his brother. Since Roger doesn't drive, he's immediately stranded, until his brother's assistant, Florence (Greta Gerwig), comes to his rescue. Florence is as much a lost soul as Roger, and as the pair begin spending more time together, they form a significant connection -- giving Roger a much-needed reason to finally be happy.
Reviews
Ben Stiller gives a solid performances in this realistic and entertaining mix of comedy and drama
Ben Stiller plays his role perfectly. It's nice to see him playing a straighter role rather than the comedy/farce he's usually placed into. Stiller's character is given some hard hitting truths to convey. He, of course, is made out to be 'mentally ill' - so the sub-text is that you don't take him seriously. However, I'd say that's the whole point. The Stiller character sees the reality, no one else does. A good effort, and more akin to European independent film making than I've ever seen from Hollywood.
